Enhancing Catalog Searching with Geospatial Technology explored the opportunities that georeferencing catalog data can provide to improving the catalog searching experience. Through a prototype interactive map interface, the project demonstrated that geocoding catalog data can uncover spatial relationships between catalog resources and expose relationships within data that would not otherwise be obvious. Over the course of the project, over 1.1 million catalog records were geotagged and contributed to three different search indices, creating a solid foundation, infrastructure, and model for future geotagging efforts.
